Without any fanfare or media communication and having so unnoticed that many of us had escaped last week Amazon launched a free program for Mac and Windows called Kindle Comic Creator. And although his name we could refer to software for comics from scratch, this is not entirely true: it is permitted convert ebooks comics for Kindle.
Taking as a starting point a set of images, that they are certainly comics pages with several bullets, the program allows us to group them into a file MOBI (or KF8) then we can get on Amazon. In principle, it would seem that there is something that could be done and with other tools. But what’s interesting about this is how easily we can implement what we have called the Amazon Kindle Panel View, and can be translated as “seen by bullet”.
viñeta” src=”http://img.genbeta.com/2013/04/432_660_vista-por-vi%C3%B1eta.jpg” The ” seen by bullet “makes the reader, instead of seeing a full page, expanding as needed depending on your device, advances in bullet bullet , expanding this automatically. Also called “guided navigation”. The mobile apps you’ve used like Marvel comics, for example, you will know what I mean.
In this case, the Kindle Comic Creator allows any author to adapt his comic book so that, when read in any Kindle device (from the Fire to electronic ink and mobile applications) , can be viewed using the view by bullet. To do this, the author, once loaded pages, indicate the order in which they will each of the vignettes. This can be done manually or automatically. In the latter case, the function has its limitations and if our comic has irregularly shaped bullets, for example, we make manual adjustments.
The program allows you to import images in JPEG format class=”caps”> , PDF , TIFF , PNG and PPM . The result is saved in a folder that we can put wherever we want (to start creating the comic, we ask for your location). We will find all the files that make up the comic with MOBI file , which is the comic itself.
Once we have generated our comics will open automatically in the Kindle preview tool (that comes bundled with the Comic Creator, even if we already have it, we can only lose this). In it, we checked as displayed in any of the readers of Amazon.
Apart from these, the application has some more features. And also odd error , such as setting the zoom level, there is no way it will work. However, I do take long to fix these problems in a future update.
Kindle Comic Creator
puts a relatively obscure and highly specialized in principle to anyone . The program is very simple to use and does not take long to get hold of him. A couple of hours or so of experimentation will allow us to discover and create our first comic. We also have a guide to answer any questions we may have.
Without being a great tool that allows us to do fancy stuff and very striking results, it is the perfect tool for enhancing publishing phenomenon so well that they are performing at Amazon. The learning curve required to create a decent comic book (and I’m referring to content, that’s another story) drops dramatically with her. If you already have created in the classic comic page format vertical (or horizontal) and divided into vignettes, prepare for reading in electronic format for Kindle will be a matter of a few hours.
Thus, an author without much technical knowledge can easily place their work which is the reference platform for the sale of e-books, with all that this entails exposure to potential readers . Another different issue is whether Amazon is the most appropriate for the authors because of the fees charged, a garden in which I will not get far. But the good thing is that no tool forces us to board our comics Amazon generated with it, but we can distribute on our own.
With the advent of Kindle Comic Creator, will we see increasing the number of electronic comics on Amazon? I think so, and especially new authors , you will be motivated to try their luck now that the technical barrier has dropped so much and are given the opportunity to reach a fleet of devices as widespread as Kindle is.
