Analysis of the new Kindle Paperwhite (2013) - Teknofilo

Kindle Paperwhite (2013)

Amazon announced in early September renewal Kindle Paperwhite , the most advanced reader books that analyze the company a year ago and I found Teknófilo outstanding.

Although at first glance the differences between the two generations are minimal, the new Kindle Paperwhite incorporates improvements on screen and new features that have made Amazon hurl a new version .

courtesy of Amazon, we had the opportunity to try the new Kindle Paperwhite for a few weeks and then we bring you our impressions after detailed analysis.

External appearance

and design

The new Kindle Paperwhite

maintains its dimensions and weight virtually unchanged Paperwhite compared to the previous generation, on the other hand are lower than other readers as we discussed Lux ??Tagus few months ago.

Model

Screen

Dimensions

Weight

Kindle Paperwhite 6.0 “ 169 x 117 x 9.1 213 gr.
Tagus Lux 6.0 “ 171 x 125 x 10.9 238 gr.
Kindle Paperwhite (2013) 6.0 “ 169 x 117 x 9.1 206 gr.

your day we discussed the Kindle Paperwhite is very convenient to carry and hold , so Amazon has repeated the same formula for success. We would have liked to see a reduction of the frame around the screen or a slight thinning of the device but also have many grievances.

The new Kindle Paperwhite

also maintains the same simple design and the same type of construction as the previous model based on one piece of black plastic .

Kindle Paperwhite (2013) - Old vs New

Kindle Paperwhite (left) and new Kindle Paperwhite (right)

front Kindle Paperwhite is occupied only by the screen surrounded plastic frame. In the bottom frame, below the screen, find the logo “kindle” in white.

back Kindle Paperwhite has a good grip, which encourages the reader to not slide into our hands. The only element we see is the Amazon logo embossed, which is the only visible difference from the previous model that had the logo Kindle.

Kindle Paperwhite side are devoid of buttons and connectors, except for the lower side where we find the micro-USB connector, LED light and switch.

Kindle Paperwhite (2013) - Down

The new Kindle Paperwhite

has 2 GB of internal storage, which are free 1.25 GB that can store approximately 1,100 books. Compartment has no micro-SD cards although we do not believe that this will be a problem.

Screen

Kindle Paperwhite (2013) The new Kindle Paperwhite maintains the same screen size 6 “ that used the previous model, with a scale of 16 levels of gray and a resolution of 212 ppp.

However

Amazon says it has improved the technology of integrated light. Indeed, placing a Kindle Paperwhite old versus new Kindle Paperwhite, is clearly seen that the same level of intensity of light, the new Kindle Paperwhite has a brighter screen with a white light.

addition while the original Kindle Paperwhite lighting irregularities were noted, especially in the bottom of the screen, the new Kindle Paperwhite dark areas have almost completely disappeared.

the tests have the page change also seemed to us somewhat faster in the new Kindle Paperwhite, probably thanks to the processor is a bit faster now. Even the lyrics seem sharper in the new model and fewer irregularities.

Kindle Paperwhite (2013) - Screen

responsibility Screen has also improved since the density of the mesh that captures keystrokes increased by 19%, which makes now respond more accurately and reduce steps involuntary page.

Features

Interface Kindle Paperwhite The user interface of the new Kindle Paperwhite is very similar to the previous model.

We continue to find ourselves

a simple and intuitive interface, where text dominates except for the covers of books.

Tapping on the top of the screen to the menu, from which we can go to the main page, go back, adjust the display lighting, buy a new book, perform a search or to access more options.

improvements incorporating the new Kindle Paperwhite is now possible to make a very simple page , with only two clicks and see all the markers we have saved in the book. Clicking on a marker to see a thumbnail page, so that we can know quickly if we want to go.

This comes

alleviate one of the drawbacks of e-books: the difficulty to move quickly along the pages, especially books that have sections with rock references, for example maps

.

dictionary in Kindle Paperwhite The X-Ray functionality continues to improve. Clicking on a relevant word in the book we get a window that displays information such as biography, where this character has appeared in the book above, etc. It also allows you to find a word in the dictionary that incorporates and Wikipedia.

looking words are stored in the “Revise vocabulary” , if you want to review the words you did not know and increase your vocabulary. It also provides a “memo cards” where you can see the word in the passage where you read it, access the definition and mark the word as learned.

Buy book on Kindle Paperwhite As in previous models, can purchase books directly from the Kindle Paperwhite , which are downloaded to our reader and stay in sync with other devices that have to always we resume reading from where we were reading independiemente device you’re using at the time.

As

format compatibility, the new Kindle Paperwhite can still read PDFs and Word documents, but lacks native support EPUB format, so you can not read any book that has not been purchased Amazon (unless previously with a tool to become).

Amazon

retains its experimental browser on the new Kindle Paperwhite, that on occasion we can pull through.

Finally

battery is still outstanding and it may be weeks until we are forced to recagar battery. However, for some unknown reason while charging the battery can not use the reader.

Price

new WiFi Kindle Paperwhite is for sale by EUR 129.00 , very similar to other devices like the price.

Unfortunately

currently no 3G/4G version of the new Kindle Paperwhite, and those seeking this functionality will have to resort to the previous model, Sales Conclusions

Amazon has not devoted much effort to the new Kindle Paperwhite innovation, but really he did not need.

It was enough

slightly improve lighting and contrast of the screen and make some adjustments usuari interface or order to stay one more year on the throne of eBook readers.

We wish

see some improvement in physical appearance , as a reduction of screen frame or thinning thick, but yet still remains a very convenient device to use.

Is it worth buying the new Kindle Paperwhite If you already are a Kindle owner Paperwhite, like me, change is not worth it because the differences between them are subtle. But if you’re thinking about getting an e-book reader for the first time, or a member of a different model Paperwhite, I have no doubt that this device will not disappoint.

Best:

  • 6 “display with high resolution (212 dpi) with excellent contrast and uniform illumination
  • interface simple, fast and intuitive, accompanied by an extensive set of software features really useful
  • Dimensions and weight very successful for transportation and everyday use
  • Ease

  • purchase and download eBooks
worst:

  • Lack of compatibility with the ePub format used by many digital libraries (except Amazon)
  • Inability to use the reader when it is charging the battery
  • Refreshment of the perceptible

  • screen (although this is a limitation of e-ink technology)

Note: New Kindle Paperwhite has been kindly provided by Amazon for conducting this analysis
