Amazon offers “flat rate” to its German customers of Kindle – Deutsche Welle Spanish

The American online retail giant Amazon launched Tuesday (7/10/2014) in Germany a “flat rate” for your customers to have access to hundreds of thousands of books without limit and for a fixed monthly payment . The “Kindle Unlimited”, also available in the United States for three months, service provides access to 650,000 titles for 9.99 euros per month, Amazon informed, day of the official opening of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

In Germany work long similar deals sites like Skoobe, Readfy or Scribd, but the new way of Amazon was greeted with dismay by booksellers and German publishers, who have long clash with the online giant’s price and distribution of income from the sale of electronic books.

“It’s a new business model we have to watch,” said dryly Heinrich Riethmüller, new president of the Union of Booksellers and Publishers of Germany, during the presentation the Frankfurt Book Fair (8 to 12 October). “The German bookstores are not afraid of Amazon,” he added, noting that his sector is the first to have to deal with online sales. “We have done our homework.”

The director of the Frankfurt Fair, Juergen Boos, reacted with indifference to the news more and considered that there is nothing new. “Every library has its own way a ‘flat rate’ of books,” he said. (Dpa)
