Kindle Fire HDX 8.9: a tablet must for Amazon Prime members - CNET in Spanish

Like her younger sister, the HDX 7, the Kindle Fire Amazon HDX 8.9 points to the highest level in the world of tablets by three notable features: a great price, a huge ecosystem of content (especially for Amazon Prime members) and help button Mayday real time, that brings up an on-screen customer service representative within seconds, and totally free.

HDX 8.9 offers all that and further improves on its 7-inch sister because brings a 8-megapixel rear camera and a screen which offers crisper colors. It is also the lightest tablet on the market there.

Unfortunately, at launch is not ready video function sling (which can “throw” videos from your HDX to a compatible device or a Smart TV). Nor is Goodreads integration. Additionally, a 16GB memory is not enough to archive HD content, and not provide access to Google Play Store, HDX owners lost many Android apps.

Still, as a device for consuming media, there is nothing better. While iPadAir has some of the best apps, the HDX 8.9 starts at U.S. $ 379, ie about U.S. $ 120 less than the initial price of the iPad Air and even some $ 20 less than the iPad Mini with Retina display.

HDX is the most important development of the Kindle Fire brand to date, however, you should be a subscriber to Amazon Prime program if you want to get the most out of the tablet.

Design

Kindle Fire

last year were very bulky and seemed to give higher priority to the comfort durability. The design of the HDX Fire 8.9 is now much better thought. It’s very light (weighs 80 grams less than the iPad Air). It feels great to the touch and easy to hold with one hand.

The power button and volume oscillator are now in the back of the tablet and although it is easier to find and press compared to the old Fire HD 8.9, I’m not sure that’s the best solution . That’s fine when you have the tablet horizontally, but it is very annoying when you want to wake quickly from sleep mode , because first you have to lift and turn instead of using a single side switch.

There’s a Micro-USB port on the left bank, and a headphone jack on the right. Micro-HDMI port last year is gone and in its place is a new video feature (more on this later). The front camera returns along with a app to take pictures and there is also an 8-megapixel rear camera.

Mojito

The new version of the Kindle Fire operating system known as OS-Mojito – is based on Android Jelly Bean and is a refinement of last year’s OS, rather than an entirely new one.

The carousel is back and you can slide to find the content you are looking for, but now the slide from the home screen you will see a list of your apps installed. And thanks to the high resolution screen, all menu icons are visible at the same time from the top of the home screen.

finally feels like a useful herramitna to enter the site. The pages load quickly. It also touches on the screen are now more accurate than before. This not only happens when you play on a web link, but it is particularly accurate at the time of writing. I am of those who make many mistakes when I write on a touch screen, but now it seems that the engineers have done a good job in this area.

Amazon

care has also some native apps like email and calendar, also added a new app for contacts. The email, which has been redesigned to require less steps to get it going, now supports message strings, so instead of seeing a single email to each person in the conversation, you will see a message from the last person who contributed the thread of the conversation.

Although the vast majority of the changes work, there is also a missed opportunity here to add more customization. Samsung does well with its latest version of TouchWiz UI, which recently saw the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. The shortcuts available Samsung behaves similarly to Amazon, but also leaves room for more options and can be customized to add even more.

is difficult to talk about how cool the new OS without mentioning the Snapdragon processor 800, which makes Amazon has the power you need to improve your viewing pleasure. The access different sections of the interface now feels much more immediate and experience less stressful and more rewarding than ever.

X-Ray

for karaoke music is on your Fire. Or something like that. The Fire displays the lyrics on the screen, while compatible song is played. The letters are scheduled to appear in coordination with the song, and this function I found more interesting than I thought. It may be for the thrill it gave me to learn the actual lyrics of some of my favorite songs.

Also, the trivia of X-Ray, with his button “Jump on stage”, are an effective way to learn about your movies or favorite TV series.
