The coins come to Amazon Kindle Fire with $  5 gift in the U.S.

class=”c21″> The largest Internet retailer in the world, Amazon.com announced Monday its acquisition of Liquavista NV hands of Samsung Electronics, in order to boost the development of new screens for mobile devices.

Amazon.com Inc. on Monday introduced also its own digital currency, Amazon Coins, which allow customers to buy applications and games in your store online and through its Kindle Fire tablets.

The Liquavista purchase price was not disclosed. Bloomberg News reported earlier this year that Samsung Electronics Co. was asking less than 100 million dollars for his business.

Samsung bought the company based in the Netherlands in early 2011 for an undisclosed sum. A South Korean company spokesman did not respond to requests for comment on Monday.

Amazon is the leading e-reader and has a range of Kindle Fire tablets that compete with the dominant Apple Inc iPad and similar devices of Google Inc and Samsung.

The online retailer is also testing and developing other devices such as smartphones and internet-based decoder, according to recent reports from The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg Businessweek.

Liquavista focuses on a technology called “electro wetting” (electrowetting), which it says provides more clarity to the screen in any lighting condition and can show videos with lower power consumption.

technology can be used on mobile devices like e-readers, smartphones, GPS devices, portable media players and cameras. In the long term, the “electro wetting” could be used in screens larger products such as laptops and televisions, Liquavista said in its website.

Amazon’s new currency – A currency equivalent to Amazon penny – can be used to buy apps and games. Another use may be generated when, for example, the user is moving in a game and want to move quickly to a new level.

Monday Amazon placed 500 of its own coins, valued at $ 5 to the accounts of all Kindle Fire owners.
